"Alamak, Toyol!"

Along Raja Lawak, Afiq and Angah Raja Lawak during our interview session.

When Along Raja Lawak, Angah Raja Lawak and Afiq get together, the trio proof to be a bundle of laughs that one simply cannot ignore. This is reflected not only in the film, but in real life as well where they stand to be just as hilarious as one can imagine as they tell us about their film which is currently showing in cinemas.

Interview with Along Raja Lawak, Angah Raja Lawak and Afiq conducted recently at our Cinema Online office.

Q: Can you tell us about your roles in "Alamak, Toyol!"?
Angah: I play Fakhrul.
Along: I'm Kudin, Fakhrul's best friend.
Adik Afi I play a Toyol (a Malay mischievous mythical nymph) who is not good at stealing at all, but only in eating and sleeping.

Q: What are some of the scenes in "Alamak, Toyol!" that are memorable to your respective characters?
Angah & Along: The scene we both can forget until now is the one with the dog. Even though the scene is supposed to be funny, we were scared. The scene required us to run while the dog chased us, but whenever the since the dog got close we got scared to run because our legs couldn't move.

Q: Afiq, what is the hardest part in playing the role of a Toyol?
Adik Afi When I had to paint my face. On the first day of shoot my whole body needed to be painted and it felt really cold because the shooting was at night.
Along: The other time was when he had to go bald. Even though he said he wasn't crying, we knew he was.

Q: What are your comments on the 'nipple sucking' scene. Do you think such an influence would give a negative effect to the viewers, especially little kids?
Angah: I too am not sure why the scene was written. Before shooting started, Afiq had discussed with Bob (director) about it and when shooting started, Bob placed Afiq on my shoulders. When Bob shouted 'action' only did I know what was going on. If a scene is looked upon negatively then it will be negative. But in my opinion the scene wasn't that far out of line, it didn't have nudity or eroticism and is definitely not obscene.
Along: The scene took quite a while and had to be repeated for 10 takes. When Angah and Afiq acted the scene, I couldn't help but to cringe as well.

Q: Why should audiences watch "Alamak, Toyol!" in the cinema?
Angah: "Alamak, Toyol!" is an entertaining film that is suitable for the whole family.
Along: For me, the Toyol in the film is not similar to the one in the Sidek Hussin film. Everyone knows that Toyol's are known to steal, but not in this film.
Adik Afi I think the film is quite unique the Toyol presented is different from other films out there.

Q: What are your hopes for this film?
Angah: I hope this film will make it to the local box office and anyone who watches the film would be entertained.
Along: I hope this film will quiet up the controversy regarding horror films in our country. This movie is not scary and is suitable for all ages.
Adik Afi I hope that this movie will get to the box office charts too, and I hope a lot of people will be talking about it.

"Alamak, Toyol!" is now showing in Malaysia and Singapore.
