26 May – Norman Abdul Halim, the executive president of KRU Studios and screenwriter for "Karak" revealed that a strange encounter while on the road led him to write the horror film, which is currently showing in cinemas nationwide. Norman said in a recent phone interview with Cinema Online that while he was driving in the early 2000s along a highway with his two brothers Yusry and Edry, he almost got into an accident when he saw a strange apparition around the area. The terrifying event gave Norman an idea to write a script for the movie "Karak", which is also named after the highway and is directed by his younger brother Yusry Abdul Halim. It's due to that experience I wrote the script for "Karak". I named it after the Karak highway as I always hear stories about the place being 'shady'. Other than that, making a horror film has always been on KRU Studios' 'wishlist' to allow our production to encompass a variety of genre other than comedy, action and superheroes films".
"I'm sure many have heard about the strange paranormal occurrences that take place along the Karak highway. These stories and 'urban legends', as well as my experience contributed to the story," added Norman. Norman also said that "Karak" is a horror film that's unlike any other in Malaysia as it differs in terms of its unusual storyline, and contemporary production techniques. The film also showcases elements of religion, science, history, culture and myth that is based on the different cultures and religions in Malaysia. The movie is expected to gross three to five million at the box office as Norman places high hopes on KRU Studios' first ever horror film. "Karak" stars Shahir AF8, Shera Ayob, Along Ezeyndy, KilaFairy dan Sidek Hussin and is now showing in cinemas at Malaysia dan Brunei.
