How time flies. Believe it or not, it has been over 15 years since the phenomenally popular "Peanuts" comic strip ended its run. But the legacy of the late Charles M. Schulz's beloved Charlie Brown and his gang lives on, thanks to 20th Century Fox's highly-anticipated release of "The Peanuts Movie" (known locally as "Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie"). In fact, this big screen adventure of the "Peanuts" gang has already opened to huge fanfare in the U.S. last month, which remains steady at the box office with more than a US$100 million gross and still counting. But fret not, because local fans will finally get to see their favourite "Peanuts" characters in a brand-new CG animation makeover this Thursday when it is released in cinemas! To celebrate the upcoming release of "Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie", here are the top 10 characters below to look forward to!
Marcie is Peppermint Patty's best friend and sidekick. She's the only girl in the "Peanuts" gang who wears glasses. She's very smart with her intellect, but pretty terrible in sports. She also happens to develop a crush on Charlie Brown.
She's a tomboy and a tough girl in the "Peanuts" gang who is particularly pushy on Charlie Brown. She also loves to call Charlie Brown "Chuck", and like you've already read above, has a sidekick named Marcie.
He is one of Charlie Brown's buddies but he is better known as the dirtiest kid of the "Peanuts" gang. He's literally dirty because there's always dirt all over his body, and he often causes a cloud of dust wherever he goes.
Sally is Charlie Brown's younger sister. She can be both cute and adorable, but she can also be moody and stubborn at the same time. She's lazy and hardly the kind of person who would enjoy facing a tough situation since she prefers to look for an easy way out. Last but not least, she also has a crush on Linus.
This chirpy little yellow bird is Snoopy's best friend and sidekick. He and Snoopy are often seen doing funny gags together. Although he's a bird by nature, Woodstock always has a hard time flying as one.
He's Lucy's love interest, but what he cares the most of is his beloved toy piano. He loves classical music and idolises Beethoven. Even though he spends most of his time playing his piano, he proves to be no slouch as the catcher for Charlie Brown's baseball team.
Linus is Lucy's baby brother, and also Charlie Brown's best friend. Despite his younger age, he is surprisingly full of wisdom and a firm believer of the Great Pumpkin. Of course, he is famously known for his babyish attitude which makes him carry his blue blanket everywhere with him while also sucking his thumb.
Lucy may look cute, but she's a little mean bully who loves to humiliate Charlie Brown, especially when it comes to football. She's also a bossy person and runs a so-called "psychiatric booth" where she offers people a piece of advice... for five cents. But beneath her bad attitude, she happens to be a romantic person, well, at least to her longtime crush, Schroeder.
Good grief! Charlie Brown is easily one of the most recognisable characters within the "Peanuts" gang. After all, who could forget his signature yellow polo shirt with black zigzag stripe which he wears all the time? Iconic appearance aside, he is also a kid that most of us could relate to; he's friendly and likable, as well as an underdog who never gives up on whatever he does. But he's developed a crush on the Little Red-Haired Girl ever since she moved into his neighbourhood, and yet he is too shy to talk to her!
Well, this shouldn't be a surprise at all. The numero uno "Peanuts" character is none other than Charlie's pet beagle, Snoopy. He's such a cultural icon that you don't have to be a fan to recognise his name and his existence. Although Snoopy likes to laze around and sleep a lot on top of his doghouse, he's never short of personality and he's full of imagination. For instance, he loves to see himself as a World War I flying ace! And there's more about this cheeky beagle who walks upright on his two hind legs; He happens to have an alter ego named Joe Cool, where he would don a pair of sunglasses and act like the popular ladies man. Suffice to say, he's anything but boring!
"Snoopy and Charlie Brown: The Peanuts Movie" opens in cinemas nationwide on 10 December.
