"KL Zombi" hits RM 2 mil in 4 days

Zizan Razak makes one heck of a zombie fighter in "KL Zombi".

5 Sep – Grand Brilliance's local production "KL Zombi" which screened on 29 August has successfully reached its box office target when it grossed RM 2 million within the first four days of its release.

General Manager of Grand Brilliance Sdn. Bhd., Tengku Iesta Tengku Alaudin, said that the film received a good response on its opening day with a total RM 250,000.

"We managed to meet our target even though there were two other Malay movies in cinemas at the same time. Actually, I did not expect this result, but it looks like comedy films still have their fans, seeing that other comedy films that aired this year has also shown overwhelming box office collections," said Tengku Iesta.

"KL Zombi" is also the highest ranked film in Cathay Cineplex, Johor Bahru, movie chart and third ranked film in Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) across the country last weekend.

"Based on the positive responses, I hope theatres would continue to screen the film for one or two weeks more," added Tengku Iesta.

Tengku Iesta also credited the success of the film to local actor Zizan Razak, "Zizan's popularity is very strong and it is obvious judging from the responses towards the films that he has been in. In fact, his fan club was hard at work helping with promotions for "KL Zombi"."

Directed by Woo Ming Jin, "KL Zombi" is based on a novel called "Zombijaya" written by Adib Zaini, which tells the story of a group of individuals who have to risk their lives and limbs to survive a zombie outbreak in Kuala Lumpur. The film stars Zizan Razak, Siti Saleha, Izara Aishah and Iedil Putra.

Tengku Iesta hopes the momentum created by "KL Zombi" will continue to increase, as well as help launch the three other films produced by Grand Brilliance, which are "KL Gangster 2" on 3 October, "Pencinta" on 24 October and "Penanggal" on 28 November.
