17 Nov – An ardent fan group for the "Evangelion" franchise is lobbying to bring the Japanese anime movie "Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance" to Malaysian cinema screens. The movie, currently playing in Singapore, is not showing in Malaysia and did not secure simultaneous distribution. However, title right holders Cathay-Keris Films, who distributes the movie in Singapore, has been alerted on the fan group move and told Cinema Online: "Yes we know about the fan base in Malaysia and also the Facebook petition for the movie to be screened here. We are awaiting more updates on the matter before a decision can be made. Perhaps we will release this movie next year." Cathay-Keris Films distributed the first instalment of the movie franchise, "Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone" back in March 2008 for Singapore and June 2008 for Malaysia. "Neon Genesis Evangelion" or simply known as "Evangelion", is a commercially and critically successful, influential, and controversial Japanese anime that began in October 1995. "Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance" is the second of four films released in the "Rebuild of Evangelion" tetralogy based on the original anime series. The Facebook group, named "Bring Eva 2.0 to Malaysia!" has 140 members at the time of writing.
