25 Nov – At a recent press conference for KRU Studios' "Vikingdom", lead actress Natassia Malthe revealed her connection to Malaysia, as well as her preparations for the upcoming epic movie, according to a report on the Daily Chili website.
Handpicked by KRU Studios to be their leading lady in the much touted-to-be Hollywood epic which is to be completely shot in Malaysia. The Norwegian-Malaysian actress gained fame through her roles in Hollywood movies such as "Elektra", "Bloodrayne 2 & 3" and "DOA: Dead or Alive". "My mum is from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. She met my Norwegian dad on a trip to Toronto. But I've only been to Malaysia once - for six hours for a shampoo ad. But that's a long time ago," revealed Malthe on her roots. "When the project came, I thought 'Wow. I'm half Norwegian and half Malaysian; the story is well written. I like being the only girl among the guys and kicking them," the actress added. Directed by Yusry Abdul Halim, "Vikingdom" is the story of a Viking warrior, Eirick (played by Dominic Purcell of "Prison Break" fame), who must face his violent past and lift the sword to face a demigod of incalculable power (Conan Stevens of "The Hobbit"). The action adventure casts Natassia as Brynna as a strong female warrior. "My character has a lot of principles and integrity, she gets to kick a lot of big vikings. It's a big task," said the 37-year-old. "Vikingdom" is currently in production and is set to be released in 3D next year. Some of the shooting locations in Malaysia include Kellie's Castle and Gua Tempurung in Perak.
