In November is the release of popular Malaysian actor Shaheizy Sam's "Kisah Paling Gengster", but the actor is currently busy planning for his first single with actress Liyana Jasmay, sponsored by NESCAFÉ. A competition has been held for Sam's fans to submit in their written lyrics, and the winning entries will be incorporated by Sam into his song. Described as an easy-listening pop song with rap by Sam himself, the 31-year-old actor hopes that the upcoming song will pave the way for many more songs to come. Recently Cinema Online got a chance to visit actor Shaheizy Sam in a recording studio before his session with Liyana Jasmay. During our wide-ranging conversation, he talked about his upcoming single by with Nescafe, his decision to return to music, filming in Bangkok for "Adnan Sempit Sawadeekap", and his stance on relationships. Hi Sam, can you tell us more about your musical comeback? Hi. I wouldn't actually call this a musical comeback, because I've never stopped making music, although I've never actually released any new singles. Well, I've always been a music lover since I was small. Every time we have a break during filming, I would play my guitar and write new material just for fun. Someone recorded one of my jamming sessions and posted the video on Facebook, and everyone asked me to come back to music. So technically it's not really a comeback, but it's more of an experiment for me to try to build a career in the music industry. Can you tell us more about this project with NESCAFÉ? This project is NESCAFÉ Cans' attempt to create engagement between me and my fans through social media by inviting them to contribute their ideas and inspirations towards the development of my new single. My fans mean so much to me and are a large contributor to my career success, so with this opportunity from NESCAFÉ Cans, I am able to closely involve them in my career development. All they need to do is share their thoughts on Facebook and Twitter via #NescafeOnSam and they stand a chance to win an iPod Shuffle. Many fans are eager to know why you've chosen Liyana Jasmay as your duet partner and not Lisa Surihani. We've discussed at length about whom to collaborate with. It's because we are old friends. Liyana Jasmay and I went to high school together, so it was easier to discuss about recording a single together. She told me that she wanted to have her own song for a long time and this collaboration with Nescafe seemed like a good opportunity.
Will you be collaborating with other artistes for other songs in the future? I haven't planned for more songs beyond this. For now, I just want to concentrate on making this a good song, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see. There have been a few musical offers, such as from producer Audi Mok to record a new album and plans to bring MOB band back together. When will the single be released? We are targeting for a November release. Today [17 October], Liyana Jasmay and I will be doing a trial recording to test out our vocal ranges. You've just concluded filming in Bangkok for "Adnan Sempit Sawadeekap". Can you tell us about your experience filming there? We had fun shooting but there weren't any particularly exciting or embarrassing incidents to tell. The storyline this time is very, very interesting for me. The stuntmen didn't really have anything to do though, poor them, since most of the stunts I was able to do myself.
You've got a lot going on for you – not only are you 2012's Most Popular Star, you're good-looking and talented to boot. So is it true that you are dating Malaysian actress Fazura? I know a lot of people are concerned about my relationship status, heck, even my mother is concerned but I'm waiting for the right woman to come along and propose to me actually. [Laughs] No, I'm just joking, but there's nothing much going on in regards to my relationship. There was a lot of controversy regarding Metrowealth's contract recently, as it was said that Metrowealth's artistes are not allowed to be in a relationship with fellow artistes. Can you confirm if it's true and what is your opinion on this? From what I understand, Metrowealth artistes are not allowed to date fellow artistes under the company, but it's not as bad as it sounds. I don't see how that is a big deal because the way I understand it, the clause is a printed way of saying "Don't bring your personal issues into your work and vice versa." I'm sure that every company practices this principle; just that MIG puts it down in ink. What if you were to date someone in the company? If I was to date someone in the company, I don't think that will be a problem either because in the end, Wawa Zainal is married to Aeril [Zafrel], Farid Kamil is married Diana [Danielle]. It's not really that you can't marry, it's more like you can't date people from the same company, but even if it's in the contract, it is not a ban, but more of a guideline. We understand. That's all for now, thank you for your time Sam! No problem, thank you for coming.
