Local movie "Sepet", touted to be the best local movie of the year, is making waves in the most unexpected way.

It was reported that since its release on 24 February, an 18 percent demand rate for the movie has been recorded and the number of audience has increased. This makes "Sepet" a highly-acclaimed movie.

"It's coming to the second week of screening and instead of a decline in demand, 'Sepet' has seen an impressive 18 percent rate of demand," said a spokesperson for the film.

"Various cinemas have increased screenings, especially in Kuantan and Klang. This is a positive indication," she said.

"Our report showed that an average of 15,000 people watched the movie per day in the one week of screening and we were also told that more than 25,000 people have watched it. The total amount collected has surpassed RM200,000," she added.

The movie "Sepet" was directed by Yasmin Ahmad. "Sepet" is a sweet love story involving Ah Loong, a 19-year-old Chinese boy who operates a pirated VCD stall, and a 16-year-old Malay girl called Orked.

The movie features Sharifah Amani Syed Rashid, Ng Choo Seong, Ida Nerina, Harith Iskander, Adibah Noor, Linus Chung and Zehan.

"Sepet" is now showing in cinemas.
