24 Nov – After winning the first Maverick award at the 10th annual Calgary International Film Festival 2009 in Canada, Malaysian filmmaker Chris Chong's film debut "Karaoke" will make its way back to its homeland in Malaysia with a limited one week release at GSC Mid Valley, from 26 November to 2 December 2009. Meanwhile, it is slated to release in Singapore beginning 26 November 2009. Viewers in Malaysia will also get to witness Chris Chong's short film "Block B", which will be screened together with "Karaoke" at 1.30pm on 28 and 29 November 2009 only. "Block B" won the Best International Short Film at the 23rd Mar del Plata International Film Festival in Argentina and has then gone to screen at various film festivals overseas. Clocking in at 75 minutes, "Karaoke" tells the story about Betik (Zahiril Adzim) who tries to build a future back together with his mother after the death of his father years ago. During the way, he takes on a shoots karaoke videos. While at night, he helps his mother at the family's karaoke bar where local people gather and sing. The film stars Zahiril Adzim, Mislina Mustaffa, Nadiya Nissa and Mohammad Hariry. Catch "Karaoke" only at GSC Mid Valley from 26 November to 2 December 2009!
