Child's Eye pops to No.1

19 Oct – The Pang Brothers' ("The Eye") first 3D horror flick "The Child's Eye" tops the Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong charts for the weekend just gone (14-17 Oct), while "Jackass 3D" crashes in at No.1 with US$50.4 million, setting record as the country's highest-grossing Sept-Oct opening film. Boasting an array of masochistic stunts, "Jackass 3D" is slated to open in Singapore on 28 October 2010, however will not be released in Malaysia.

"The Child's Eye" tops in Hong Kong, Malaysia & Singapore!

"Endhiran" RM 20 mil? Coliseum KL seems quiet on a Sunday afternoon.

Garnering S$510,000 in Singapore, "The Child's Eye" has surpassed the final box office of the twin directors' two other recent horror pieces; "Re-cycle" (S$469,000) and "The Messengers" (S$448,000). It also exceeded the final box office of the first Asian 3D horror release, "The Shock Labyrinth: House of Horrors 3D" (S$280,000) directed by Takashi Shimizu. Meanwhile in Malaysia and Hong Kong, the film raked in RM$1.7million and HK$4.4million respectively.

Continuing the Malaysian box office, cop comedy "The Other Guys" starring Will Ferrell and Mark Walhberg made an encouraging debut in second followed by local horror comedy "Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak 2", which slipped a notch in third. Last weekend's chart topper "Endhiran" drops to fourth, giving way to other titles much sooner than expected. Sources confirm that the movie has grossed in excess of RM7 million but has slowed slow down significantly in its third week, making it harder to reach the distributor's targeted RM20 million.

Other lesser releases that debuted include Ryan Reynolds' claustrophobic thriller "Buried", John Woo's "Reign Of Assassins", Thai action "The Sanctuary", Irrfan Khan's action "Knock Out" and Ajay Devg's thriller "Aakrosh".

In Singapore, Katherine Heigl's parental comedy "Life As We Know It" opened in second, while last week's No.1 movie "Eat Pray Love" stumbled to third. Other new releases over the weekend include Alexandre Aja's creature feature "Piranha", George Clooney's "The American", action thriller "Takers", Japanese action "Kamui" and Korean thriller "Bestseller".
