"Maattrraan" screenings delayed

Tamil film actor Suriya plays conjoined twins in "Maattrraan".

11 Oct – Movie prints for the highly-anticipated K. V. Anand film, Tamil action thriller "Maattrraan" which is due for release tomorrow, Friday, 12 October 2012, has encountered some issues relating to the late arrival of print, which may result a delay of the planned screenings.

In 2007, a similar delay occurred with the movie "Sivaji", which led to a massive ruckus particularly at Lotus Five Star's Panggung Sri Intan in Klang and the Coliseum Cinema in Kuala Lumpur. The commotion left the cinemas vandalised, so much so that the former had to be closed for a week for repairs. "Sivaji" saw a massive demand due to its status as a Rajinikanth movie and the tickets which were priced at RM18 did not hinder fans travelling from different states to make it for the first show here in the Klang Valley, however many didn't want to accept the delay as an excuse hence the uproar.

Meanwhile, "Maattrraan" stars Tamil film actor Suriya in dual roles as conjoined twins, Vimalan and Akilan, and is historical as it is the first Indian movie to utilize performance capture technology, which will be seen in sequences involving Suriya. Alongside Suriya is "Naan Mahaan Alla" actress Kajal Agarwal, who plays the love interest of Vimalan.

Vimalan and Akilan sleep, eat, work and do every other thing together, but their personalities are as different as they could be. Vimalan is a soft-spoken youth with communist ideologies, while Akilan is a fun-loving youth. As with K. V. Anand's movies, "Maattrraan" will not only explore the brothers' unique relationship, but it also highlights the social issues involving conjoined twins.

It is still not yet known when "Maattrraan" will be released, but stay tuned for the latest updates here.
