14 Nov – The highly anticipated Tamil action film "Thuppakki", starring Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles finally sees a wide public release in cinemas in Malaysia today, 14 November, after the limited public screenings yesterday due to the late arrival of the prints. A. R. Murugadoss' film was scheduled to be released yesterday, 13 November, in conjunction with the Deepavali/Diwali celebration, but screenings were delayed till 9pm for MBO, while TGV and GSC have had none due to the film's prints arriving late. This resulted in the cinemas having to face inquiries and challenges with moviegoers and fans as many were angered by the delays. While there was no public display of outrage, there were more than a few criticisms posted on the cinemas' respective Facebook pages. One Ridhika Shantini posted, "TGV, halo TGV, why in this list, no Thuppaki laaaa? Why this kind of cheap mentality?? dont make is Indian viewers mad la ok!!" Aside from the delay in screenings, cinemas are forced to deal with the lack of subtitles for "Thuppakki", an issue which is significant according to a source, as there are some who need help understanding Tamil.
Otherwise, the actioner is out today, save for GSC Suria Sabah Kota Kinabalu, which will only be screening "Thuppakki" this Saturday, 17 November. "Thuppakki" is described to be a Tamil action film with a Bond flavour, with Vijay starring as a youngster from a Mumbai-based Tamil family, and the story revolves around the decisions he makes after his life undergoes a sudden turn.
