13 Nov – Although the Gavin Hood directed young adult action/adventure flick "Ender's Game" scored the top spot in the U.S. last weekend at their box office, when it reach our shores in Singapore and Malaysia it didn't turn out as well as they has hoped. "Thor: The Dark World" took the top spot in Malaysia and Singapore's weekend box office (8-10 November) for the second time, beating out not only "Ender's Game" but "Carrie" and "Ton Yung Goong 2" amongst the others. "Ender's Game" is about Ender Wiggin, played by Asa Butterfield, who is recruited by the International Military to lead the fight against the Formecs, a genocidal alien race which nearly annihilated the human race in a previous invasion.
"Carrie", "Ender's Game" and "Highland Tower" took the second, third and fourth place behind "Thor: The Dark World" in Malaysia, whereas "Ender's Game and "Tom Yung Goong 2" fell behind Singapore's "Thor: The Dark World" placement.
In the U.S., "Thor: The Dark World" also ruled the box office with their debut over the weekend, followed by last weekend's top spot "Bad Grandpa" and the animated "Free Birds". "Free Birds" is a happy-go-lucky Thanksgiving feature about two turkeys from opposite sides of the tracks who must put aside their differences and team up to travel back in time to change the course of history, and get turkey off the holiday menu for good. Other new films that opened over the weekend in Malaysia are "21 Days: The Heineken Kidnapping", "Oh Boy!", "Diana", "Malam.... Penuh Bermisteri", "The Grocer", "Dark Forest", "This Life and "Made In Hungaria". Other new films that opened over the weekend in Singapore are "Don Jon", "Enough Said" and "Baby Blues".
