17 Mar – The Indian director based in Malaysia's first horror flick was admittedly a risk, but it was a risk he was willing to take. Kabir Bhatia's "Sembunyi: Amukan Azazil" focuses on the character Aishah (Diana Danielle), who was saved by a secluded village before Japanese soldiers got a hold of her. As she embarks on her new life with the villagers, she is haunted by a strange young girl that the other villagers do not notice. Meanwhile, the villagers grow more and more fearful for their lives when they are hunted by a strange creature called 'Azazil'. Said Kabir, "We like to take new risks when it comes to storytelling but at the end of the day, we think we delivered a good film, its entertaining and so we hope people will come and watch it."
The movie itself also caused some controversy as it was shot last year during fasting month but is only shown this year. "This film should have been shown last October but Grand Brilliance said that it wasn't the right time in the market to show it. We needed to wait for the right time," says producer Tengku Iesta. Actress Umie Aida, who was present, spoke about the importance of the story in the film, "Since this film is story-oriented, I don't want to reveal too much about my character. I want audiences to be surprised!" But even though it seemed risky to shoot in a forest, Kabir laughed it off, "The best thing about shooting in the forest is that we can turn around anywhere and still get a shot. That's my secret, but don't tell anyone." "Sembunyi: Amukan Azazil" will be out in local cinemas on 28 March 2013.
