"Kabali" is rated 18 in Malaysia.

19 Jul – Superstar Rajinikanth's much anticipated film, "Kabali", has been finally rated in the country by the Film Censorship Board of Malaysia (LPF).

The Ministry of Home Affairs' website has stated that the film is to be rated 18 in Malaysia. This means that the Tamil action film is only suitable for audiences aged 18 and above.

However, at the time of writing, an approval date for the film is yet to be stated on the website, which suggests that the film is still being evaluated for release.

Based on the trailer alone, it was expected that the film would receive such a rating due to its abundance of action scenes which may carry some elements of violence deemed suitable only for the older audiences.

However, under section 21 of the Film Censorship Act 2002, if the owner of the film does not agree with the decision of the LPF, they may appeal to the Films Appeal Committee within 30 days from the date of the decision letter issued by LPF.

If "Kabali's" rating can be appealed for P13 instead of 18, that would mean a higher number of audiences would be able to catch the film in cinemas, thus this would also lead to higher box office returns.

However, an appeal to change its rating might also mean that the movie may be compromised if cuts and changes were requested of it.

With many fans gearing up to catch the film this weekend itself, "Kabali" would have certainly benefited with advance ticket sales usually done for blockbuster Hollywood films. However, as Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) states on their Facebook page, no premiere tickets or screening tickets for "Kabali" have been sold as of yet.

"Please be informed that [the] cinema can only start selling the tickets after [the] cinema [has] receive[d] the movie content from the distributor. As for [the] current moment, we [have] yet to have [an] update on the advance booking." reads one of GSC's reply comments to a Facebook user on their Facebook page.

Distributed by Malik Streams Corporation in the Malaysia, locally filmed "Kabali" (Tamil version) is expected for release this 22 July worldwide, and the Bahasa Malaysia dubbed version is expected for release this 29 July in Malaysia.
