Dante Lam shares two conditions of making a movie

Dante Lam's latest movie is "Operation Red Sea".

28 Feb – Although his new movie, "Operation Red Sea" made a big dent at the box office, Dante Lam is not one to fall into the trap of commercial success that so often crushes other filmmakers.

As reported on Singtao Daily, the director whose new movie broke the RMB 1.5 billion mark at the mainland box office recently and was positively reviewed by critics, shared that he has two conditions when it comes to making movies.

"First is creative space. Each film's topic is something that I want to express. Otherwise making a movie would be meaningless," he said.

The second, said Dante, is the criteria for production.

"In the past many films put money on the stars. I hope my film can convince investors that a sincere and seriously produced film is worth spending the money for," he explained.

As for his new project, Dante shared that he is in negotiations with Emperor Motion Pictures to helm a crime action drama set in Hong Kong.

"My latest projects including "Operation Mekong" and "To the Fore" were a bit of a departure from Hong Kong. I want to make a movie that is closely linked to Hong Kong," he said.
