10 Dec – After more than a decade of being in the Malaysian creative industry, talented actor Amerul Affendi is now a highly-sought artiste by the film productions which are keen to work with him. Mohd Amerul Affendi Mohd Mawardi is his full name, and the actor was happy to share his elation with Cinema Online during the premiere of "Prebet Sapu" at TGV Cinemas, 1 Utama, Petaling Jaya on Wednesday 8 December. He shared that he was honoured to be accorded the trust to carry the lead role in the film, under the direction of Muzzamer Rahman. "I felt the responsibility because this is the second time that I am portraying a lead character after "Mencari Rahmat." Prior to this, I have had the experience of being the leads on stage theatres and on television."
He added that the decision of The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) to select the film to represent Malaysia for the Best International Feature Film category at the 94th Academy Awards (Oscar) in Los Angeles next year is still wonderment for him. The film had only a tight budget of RM500,000. Amerul hopes that "Prebet Sapu" will open the eyes and minds of the Malaysian leaders and public of the struggles of another segment of society, so that positive changes can come about in the country. The actor is not afraid to 'voice out' through the film of the conflicts that are occurring in the country. "I am ready for the film to be watched in Malaysia because on a daily basis, the younger generation is struggling. Not just the young ones, but other segments as well due to the political situation and the economy." "As such, I truly hope that the public should watch the film so we can all strive together to improve and elevate ourselves," he added. The film follows a young man named Aman who moves to the city of Kuala Lumpur after the death of his father, and embarks illegally on a ride-hailing service ('prebet sapu'). His life changes when he meets Bella, a young ethnic Chinese lady. "Prebet Sapu" will be released in Malaysia on 16 December 2021
