14 Apr – Jared Hess has no issue whatsoever with the behaviour of cinemagoers who went to watch his movie, "A Minecraft Movie", despite the backlash against them.

Hess, who was asked about the "Chicken Jockey" trend, in which cinemagoers would throw popcorns and cause chaos in cinema halls as soon as Jack Black's character said those words in one of the scenes, stated that he felt people deserve to let loose rather than have authorities involved.

The "Chicken Jockey" scene in question features Jason Momoa's character battling a baby zombie riding atop a chicken. The scene, which was previewed in trailers before the film's release, has transformed into a viral meme, particularly among US audiences who now anticipate the scene with excitement.

It is noted that in the most viral video filmed at a cinema in the US, a group of cinemagoers threw popcorn, unknown powder and even a live chicken at the screen and at each other as soon as the "chicken jockey" scene appeared.

Many audience members have been documented arriving at theatres with popcorn buckets prepared specifically for this moment, ready to launch them into the air when Jack Black's character Steve shouts the now-infamous words "CHICKEN JOCKEY!"

"It's weird when you're having too much fun and the cops get called," Hess said. "It's funny because I think it's just literally cheering and throwing popcorn, which is so funny to me that cops are getting called for popcorn. Yeah, it's hilarious. I've seen so many funny videos. It's great, especially when people are climbing on their friends' shoulders and standing up and cheering for those moments. It's like this crazy anticipation. But, man, I'm just glad people are making memories with their friends and families."

The same sentiment was not shared by cinema employees, who said that it had been a nightmare for them for the past few days as cinemagoers would leave theatres a bigger mess and even being disrespectful and hostile towards staff.

Meanwhile, others who just wanted to watch the movie in peace, also admitted that the experience was maddening as they weren't able to hear or focus on anything. One commenter said that they were also unable to complete watching the movie after the management of the cinema shut down the movie halfway through and kicked everybody out of the place for causing disturbance and vandalism.

But to Hess, the trend has been "so bananas" to him.

"It's been way too fun. People are sending me these really hilarious speeches that a lot of teenagers are giving right before the movie. It's so hysterical, man. I'm staying up way too late," he added.
