19 Dec – Premium-X Cinemas has recently turned one. The cinema celebrated its 1-year anniversary with a screening of "The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies" on 18 December 2014. Located on the second floor of Skypark @ One City Mall at USJ25, Subang Jaya, Premium-X is the first ever kiosk-operated cinema in Malaysia. Moviegoers need not queue at the counter to purchase a ticket, they may simply do so using the self-service kiosk. Each customer will be given a movie ticket, which is a small slip of paper with a barcode printed on it. Customers may only enter the screening halls after scanning their tickets at the turnstiles.
Premium-X opened a year ago, just in time for the screening of "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and now here they are one year later, celebrating the cinema's first anniversary that just so happens to coincide with the release of yet another "Hobbit" movie. The celebration this time around has attracted the most loyal and adventurous of "Hobbit" fans as a throng of them came dressed like their favourite characters in the movie, much to the delight of the movie patrons who immediately started taking pictures of, and with, the dressed-up fans.
Speaking to Cinema Online, Palaniyapan, the General Manager of Premium-X Cinemas stated that they are planning to open four more cinemas at various locations. There are a total of three locations in Johor, which are Mall of Medini, Tebrau and Larkin, and one at Skypark, Cyberjaya; where the new cinemas are expected to be located at.
Of the Mall of Medini cinema, Palaniyapan said, "We are planning more than 15 screens for it and the halls will be different than the ones here, there will be a gold class and premium class concept." Premium-X targets to expand its growth by 30 to 40 screens tentatively in the next two years.
