Ready to see Mr. Grey? Am I ever. |
Since the trailer for "Fifty Shades of Grey" came out, it's making viewers' cheeks go fifty shades of red as it turns the heat up!
Based on a book with the same title, the movie is about the relationship between a wealthy man, Christian Grey, who keeps a secret chamber (filled with uhm...interesting things) and his very submissive girlfriend, Ana. Ana soon discovered his secret and along with that, her own carnal desires.
But this R-rated movie probably won't make it to our silver screens.
Malaysia has a strict regulation when it comes to explicit sexual content in movies and let's just say when it comes to this particular one – it is expected that it's not something our censorship board will be welcoming with open arms. Here we've listed five movies which has suffered the same fate "Fifty Shades of Grey" is bound to face:
Inside Deep Throat (2005)
This American documentary is banned since the content is all about the 1972 pornographic movie "Deep Throat". The documentary examines the movie's effects on American society.
"Deep Throat", the movie, is a low budget porno that was shot in a Florida hotel and it stars Linda Lovelace. "Inside Deep Throat" basically explores how and why the controversial movie could blow up with such success while also covering the making of the movie as well as unraveling the dark truth of the mistreatments of the starring lady behind the scenes.
Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008)
Dubbed as a romantic sex comedy film, "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" starring Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks is one of the movies banned in Malaysia. No need to ask why, the movie's title is pretty self-explanatory.
Zack and Miri are a couple of dirt broke roommates. Desperate for money, Zack reluctantly convinces Miri that they should film a porno in order to earn some bucks. So the two start getting it on with a camera filming their fun in the sheets sessions. The movie does have a happy ending but to get to it, you'll have to sit through some raunchy stuffs first – and our government does not think that is okay. Banned!
No Strings Attached (2011)
This movie actually passed the board but in a heavily censored version. In this 2011 movie, Natalie Portman and Ashton Kucther star as Emma and Adam.
The two made a pact to have casual sex with each other but promised to never fall in love. Guess how'd that end? Since this movie is basically just the non-attached-lovers with their hands on each other throughout the whole movie, there's no surprise our censorship board is more than happy to drop the gavel on this one.
Friends with Benefit (2011)
The scriptwriters in Hollywood were probably having a slow day when they decided to come out with not one, but two, stories in 2011 involving a hot guy (Justin Timberlake) and a cute chick (Mila Kunis) getting it on but without the hassle of having any commitment to each other.
That's pretty much it for the film. Sure, the plot is a bit different than the one mentioned above but when it boils down to the basic story – two eyecandy couples who love casual sex and eventually found true love in each other. Happily ever after non Disney style, huh Timberlake?
Shame (2011)
Oh wow, 2011 was one hot year! And we do not mean the weather. Here's another steamy movie that came out in said year.
"Shame" tells the story of Brandon (Michael Fassbender) who has a sexual addiction and is unable to manage his sex life. His life spirals even more out of control when his wayward younger sister moved into his apartment. He later gains an unpleasant but better understanding of his life after going through an incident involving the sister. This is the movie we get to see Magneto's... um, we mean, Fassbender's unmentionables.
