"KL Drift" supports GSC Alamanda launch

7 Apr – Golden Screen Cinemas' new baby, GSC Alamanda, was officially launched last Saturday, 5 April 2008, to the attendance of many specially invited guests from the industry. Among them were Chairman of GSC Cinemas Tan Sri Ghazali Seth, CEO of GSC Ms. Koh Mei Lee, and renowned actor-director Yusof Haslam, who arrived with his son Syamsul Yusof, director of local drifting flick "Evolusi KL Drift".

"KL Drift" supported the opening of the cinema by showcasing some of the vehicles featured in the film. GSC Alamanda is the first cinema in the administrative capital of Putrajaya, and is nestled in the Entertainment Hub of Alamanda shopping centre in Precinct 1. It has a total of five halls and 1,086 seats.

Cinnamon also visited GSC Alamanda during the launch.

Irving Chee: "The cinema was built to complement the mall."

Irving Chee, General Manager of GSC, said, "The cinema was built to complement the mall. There are only five halls currently, but there are options of expanding the cinema to eight halls in the future. It was designed according to where the mall put us, at a ground floor level, which is different compared to usual GSC cinemas where are mainly located at higher levels."

During the launch, Chee also said, "I am confident 'KL Drift' will be strong. It's interesting to see how it does."

"KL Drift" has since topped past weekend's box office charts, breaking the previous record (by a local movie) held by Ahmad Idham's horror film "Jangan Pandang Belakang".
