"Babylon" & "Money 2" open

"Don't shoot me, I didn't direct the movie!" – Vin Diesel in "Babylon A.D."

29 Aug - While the director of "Babylon A.D." is busy condemning his own movie, the Vin Diesel vehicle goes out to some 50 screens over the weekend, releasing widest along with Jack Neo's much awaited Singaporean sequel "Money No Enough 2". The two movies will look to capitalise over the extended Merdeka holiday weekend, as audiences in the U.S. enjoy their Labour Day weekend with "Tropic Thunder" and "Disaster Movie" too.

Chin Chee Wei (R): Awesome, fantastic and realistic! I like Vin Diesel's performance - from the way he talked to the way he fought. This movie gets 4.5 stars!

Director Mathieu Kassovitz, most famous for his cult classic "La Haine" (1995) and to regional audiences for "Gothika" (2003), has blasted Twentieth Century Fox for allegedly taking control of the movie from him, to the extent of ruining it. Media reports have confirmed that he has compared it to a bad episode of TV series "24" and regrets the entire collaboration, after seeing some 15 minutes of the film cut out, which he believed was crucial to the plot.

Not that local audiences were bothered though – most gave it the thumbs up at Cinema Online's recent preview screening for the movie, ranging from three to four and a half stars.

Smaller titles this cinema weekend include Mike Myer's naughty comedy "The Love Guru", Chan Bak Cheung's "The Luckiest Man" and Jayam Ravi's Tamil thriller "Dhaam Dhoom", while Arjun Rampal-starrer "Rock On" enjoys a limited release too. The customary new Asian horror movie for the week is Thai offering "Ghost House".
