Syamsul Yusof's debut triumphs once more

14 Apr – Oops, he did it again! Syamsul Yusof's directorial debut "Evolusi KL Drift" has clung to the top spot for the second week in a row despite some stiff competition from Hollywood and Hong Kong, accomplishing what its predecessor "Duyung" failed to do. This bodes well for Syamsul's upcoming project, a film called "Bohsia", which will start shooting later this month.

Local box office collection is nearing RM3 million already, a mere seven days since the film's general release, which resulted in the sound of local box-office records being smashed. "KL Drift" not only made the No.1 spot in its opening weekend, but it also broke the record in opening day collections for a local movie at the box office, raking in half a million ringgit on the first day alone.

The only major threat to Syamsul's run at No.1 was Keanu Reeves' police thriller, which debuts on the charts in second place with 35 prints. Falling one spot to third is Hong Kong epic "Three Kingdoms: Resurrection Of The Dragon" currently in its second week of release with 40 prints. The two climbers on the charts are kiddie fantasy flick "Nim's Island", which jumped from sixth place to fourth, and adult rom-com "Definitely, Maybe" which climbed up five spots and debuts in the charts at No.8. Period drama "Escape From Huang Shi" debuts at seventh place with 31 prints on general release.

"If my movie doesn't make No.1 next week I'll kill you!" – a scene from "Street Kings"

The rest of the entries on the top ten all registered declines, with Japanese manga flick "L Change The World" dropping two spots to No.5 and former champ "Ah Long" descending to sixth place – by no means an unsuccessful run for the film as it displayed more staying power than initially anticipated. Another former top ten champ "The Water Horse" falls five spots to ninth place, marking the imminent departure of creature features from the top ten for now. Finally, Tamil offering "Yaaradi Nee Mohini" slips two places from No.8 to settle at the bottom of the top ten.
