12 Aug - It was a proud moment for Mamat Khalid, as "Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang" bagged most awards including Best Picture at the 21st Malaysian Film Festival last Saturday (9 August 2008). The neo-noir film produced under the Tayangan Unggul banner brought home a total of RM 50,000 including trophies and additional rewards. The comedy director also won Best Director for the said movie, and took a trophy with RM 20,000 prize money. Famously known as 'Hero Malaya', Rosyam Noor proves that age is not a factor when he took Best Actor owing to his performance in "Kala Malam Bulan Mengambang". Maya Karin in the other hand found herself not only a husband but also a Best Actress accolade for her portrayal of the tomboy Jo in "Anak Halal". Maya however, was represented by Tayangan Unggul Executive Producer Gayatri Su-Lin Pillai as she was in Italy for her wedding. Four Jury's Exceptional Award was given to Shuhaimi Baba for "1957 Hati Malaya", M Subash for "Pensil", Dr Hatta for "Wayang" and Syamsul Yusof for "Evolusi Kl Drift". The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to both Ruminah Sidek and Wahid Satay for their accomplishments in the film industry. Meanwhile, "Duyung" beat all of the others to a special Box Office Award for an outstanding cinema collection of RM 4.5million.
