22 Mar – "Evolusi KL Drift", the debut effort from our very own young director Syamsul Yusof has proven to be unlike its close rival "Impak Maksima" which was released last year. Despite its action elements and stunts, this movie is completely free of the application of CGI scripting, which was employed by its predecessor. Instead, with the help of a hefty budget by Malaysian standards, Syamsul has ensured that all action scenes utilise real, live-action stunts and suitable cars and equipment. Farid Kamil plays the lead role of Sham alongside Syamsul Yusof's character, Zack. During the film premiere held last night at GSC Mid Valley, he commented that "Evolusi KL Drift" is completely different from what the mass audience is used to seeing, and the reason he accepted the offer to act in the movie is because of the passion and determination he saw in Syamsul to realise his debut action-packed flick. Prior to that, the young director had already convinced Farid that this movie would be much better than "Impak Maksima". The decision to not apply any CGI scripting on a single scene is what excited him the most.
Datuk Yusof Haslam, as father and film director, is very optimistic about his son's potential to be a sought-after director in years to come. Although this is his only debut, he has proven that he was up to the challenge of making the film on his own, without his father's help, but with his parent's full support. Datuk Yusof further describes Syamsul as a good helmsman of his own fleet who is very independent and passionate about his work despite receiving minimum guidance from his father. The film is certainly something they can be proud of, and though it may not be perfect, it's a step in the right direction for a beginner like Syamsul. Syamsul, on the other hand, nervously anticipates feedback from members of the media and the audience as a whole. The actor, writer and film director is just hopeful that all the effort and hard work pays off as he gives his best to make his debut a quality and meaningful piece for the audience and Malaysian society as a whole. "Evolusi KL Drift" races into cinemas on 3 April 2008. Related articles: "Evolusi KL Drift" movie page
