Michael Jackson tribute movie

The late pop legend Michael Jackson in his landmark music video "Thriller"

12 Aug – Film distributor Sony Pictures Releasing International for Malaysia and Singapore has disclosed to Cinema Online that a Michael Jackson tribute movie, entitled "Michael Jackson's This Is It" will make release in Singapore and Malaysia in October this year.

"This Is It" was a planned series of 50 concerts by Michael Jackson to be held at the O2 Arena in London. They were scheduled to begin in July 2009 and continue through March 2010. Less than three weeks before the first show and with all concerts being sold out, Jackson died of a cardiac arrest, reportedly.

According to the website www.michaeljackson.com the movie will be "drawn from legendary entertainer's last rehearsals and behind-the-scenes footage" and that it "will be released 30 October 2009 in High Definition with Digital Sound". The same source states select sequences will be in 3-D and that the film will feature a retrospect to Jackson's career, including behind-the-scenes segments and interviews with former friends of the pop star. The film project is underway with the full support of The Estate of Michael Jackson and its executors.

Sources online indicate that "This Is It" the movie will be the product of editing hours of rehearsal footage shot mostly at The Staples Center in Los Angeles and that Sony paid US $60 million for the film rights.

Materials such as movie poster will only be released in mid-September, it is learned, together with the launch of its trailer.
