14 May – Cinema chains are expanding their reach in time for blockbuster season, catering to the demands of cinemagoers' preferences of today.
The 6-screen Superstar Cinema recently rolled out the first and only 3D hall in Johor at Today's Mall, Ulu Tiram on 6 May 2010, where Johorians were able to catch 3D movie screenings beginning with "Toy Story 1 & 2 Double Feature". Ticket price for 3D movies are at RM18. The cinema, which commenced business on 5 December 2009, is able to house up to 944 movie patrons.
Moviegoers in Sabah will rejoice at the soon-to-be-opened GSC Suria Sabah and Megalong Cineplex Penampang come 20 May 2010. The new 8-screen GSC Suria Sabah in Kota Kinabalu will incorporate the first digital 3D hall in Sabah, in time for the opening of "Shrek Goes Fourth" in 3D. With a total number of 1,465 seats, the new cineplex will cater to the needs of 3D movie fans in East Malaysia and is equipped with 16 wheelchair space for the disabled. Meanwhile, the 4-screen Megalong Cineplex will open its first cinema at Megalong Shopping Mall, Penampang boasting a total of 511 seats catering to moviegoers within the Donggongon Penampang area.
In addition to the cinema chain expansion, MBO Cinemas are set to open a 10-screen Cineplex at Harbour Place in Port Klang by 10 June 2010. Located on Level 7, the new Cineplex will cater to Klang and surrounding areas such as Shah Alam.
