Mar 11 - If you thought that Malaysian Film Festival winner "Papadom" (2009) was a heart-warming film, then its Tamil remake "Appalam" is no less emotional and dramatic. Afdlin Shauki returns to direct "Appalam" and revealed that the plot will be the same - the relationship between a father and his daughter - with small changes in background. At the filming set in Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) recently, he said: "The portrayal of a father-daughter relationship in an Indian family is different if compared to a Chinese and Malay family. I think this take is more emotional." "Papadom" starred Afdlin Shauki and Liyana Jasmay and in "Appalam" features Gana Pragasam as Appalasamy and newcomer Raja Ilya as Shruti. "Appalam" tells the tale of Shruti who wants to further her studies in the city because she cannot stand the constant control of her life by her dad. Worried about the safety of her daughter, Appalasamy acts by working as a gardener so that he can keep an eye on her. The movie also stars Sharifah Amani, Jaclyn Victor, Sathiya and Afdlin Shauki.
