3 May – Over the weekend, two of the most anticipated sequels Robert Downey Jr.'s "Iron Man 2" and Donnie Yen's "Ip Man 2" seem to have appeared neck and neck at the Malaysian box office, while Michael Bay's remake of a 1984 horror flick "A Nightmare On Elm Street" seared its way to the top in North America. As observed in Cinema Online's "Hot Movie Checks", "Iron Man 2" shot up the list, followed by "Ip Man 2", "Ice Kacang Puppy Love", "Sura" and "The Losers". Cathay Cineplexes reported that their hottest selling movie over the weekend was "Iron Man 2", whilst GSC Mid Valley manager Mr Lee Kong Yew revealed that the martial arts blockbuster "Ip Man 2" had the most number of ticket sales at their location. Before these big blockbuster movies kicked off, cinemas chains have been upgrading their halls or opening new cinema locations to cater to discerning cinemagoers. GSC Terminal 1 halls in Seremban was recently upgraded with better leg room space, stadium type seating, new chairs and carpets, and GSC 1 Utama Gold Class hall was refurbished with new chairs. In addition to that, TGV Cinemas opened a 9-screen cinema last Thursday at Wangsa Walk Mall, KL.
