9 Aug – Despite the less-than-favourable reviews for M Night Shyamalan's live action remake of the animated Avatar TV series, "The Last Airbender" nonetheless fought to the top in Malaysia, outgrossing all movies during its weekend debut (5-8 Aug) alongside newly released video-game-turned-movie "Tekken".

Based on Cinema Online's 'Hot Movie Checks' over the weekend, "The Last Airbender" was without a doubt the top showtimes search on the site, followed by "Salt", "Tekken", "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" and "Inception".

Shyamalan's first adaptation attempt was flawed in the United States when it opened alongside "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" early July. The film debuted in fifth place, earning US$69.3 million during its five-day start, making its mark as Shyamalan's third highest-grossing opening behind "Signs" and "The Village" according to Box Office Mojo. Meanwhile, in order to note if fans wanted more of "The Last Airbender", an online poll on the site prompted the question: "Do you want to see a sequel to 'The Last Airbender'?". However, majority of readers voted 'No' (48.5%), followed by 'I don't care' (27.2%) and 'Yes' (24.3%).

Meanwhile, "The Other Guys" scored top position in US, overthrowing three-time champion "Inception". Reteaming Will Ferrell with director Adam McKay after "Land Of The Lost", action comedy "The Other Guys" is set to release in Malaysia beginning 14 October 2010.
