11 Oct – The robo mania has yet to die down as Rajnikanth's fans continue to flood cinemas nationwide over the weekend just gone (7-10 Oct) to catch sci-fi action "Endhiran" (aka "Robot" in Hindi) with Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai. Meanwhile, director Ahmad Idham's comedy sequel "Jangan Pandang Belakang Congkak 2" managed to hit RM1.5 million in its opening weekend, according to actress Lisa Surihani's Facebook shout out.
Other releases that debuted last weekend include Jennifer Aniston's rom-com "The Switch", 3D animation "Sammy's Adventures: The Secret Passage", Steve Carell's screwball comedy "Dinner For Schmucks" and George Clooney's suspense thriller "The American".
In the U.S., "The Social Network" gathered enough friends to lead the box office as it posted an estimated US$15.5 million, according to Box Office Mojo. Katherine Heigl's "Life As We Know It" and "Secretariat" had decent showings of an estimated US$14.6 million and US$12.6 million, respectively. "The Social Network", surrounding the origin of Facebook and its eccentric founder Mark Zuckerberg, is set to screen in Malaysia on 11 November 2010.
In other news, Warner Bros. recently issued a statement cancelling the 3D conversion of "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 1" as the studio could not complete the 3D conversion in time for its UK and US release date, 19 November 2010. However, Warner ensured that Part 2, the final instalment of the film franchise, will release in 2D and 3D formats.
