6 Dec - "Rapunzel: A Tangled Tale" climbed past last week's chart topper "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 1" in Singapore as the normal 2D version opened over the weekend just gone (2-5 Dec), while "The Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader" 3D version debuted in second. Among the other news movies that played in Singapore include "My Soul To Take", "Skyline", "Hello Stranger", "The Haunted House Project", "Raktha Charithram" and "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey". Box Office Mojo also reported that the animated film "Tangled" topped the United States weekend box office, drawing in an estimated US$21.5 million, while "Deathly Hallows" followed behind with US$16.7 million. Meanwhile, cowboy-ninja action film "The Warrior's Way" opened Stateside in ninth position with an estimated US$3.05 million, earning significantly less than such low-flying movies as "Jonah Hex", "Dragonball Evolution", "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li" and "Punisher: War Zone", according to Box Office Mojo. Starring Dong-gun Jang, Kate Bosworth and Geoffrey Rush, the film is currently showing in Malaysia and is yet to secure a release in Singapore.
In Malaysia, distributor Metrowealth International Group (MIG) revealed that "Ngangkung" has successfully garnered RM5.6 million within 11 days and is said to have exceeded "Adnan Sempit"'s 7-day tally at the box office. According to MIG's predictions, the local horror comedy starring Shaheizy Sam may be well on its way to exceed RM8 million gross at the end of its run, breaking "Adnan Sempit"'s RM7.6 million record to become Malaysia's highest-grossing film of all time. Other films that debuted in Malaysia are "The Social Network", "Due Date", "The Chronicles Of Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader" (3D), "Lelio Popo", "Pemburu Hantu", "Aku Tak Bodoh", "Cikku Bukku", "Kanni Mohzi", "Raktha Charithram" and "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey".
