19 Apr – Viewers who attended the preview screening of comic-turned-film "Kick-Ass" recently at Cathay Cineplex were in for a treat as an 11-year-old, purple-haired vigilante stole the show with kick-ass, violent scenes and an extended vocabulary.
Based on the comic book series by Scotsman Mark Millar and directed by Matthew Vaughn, audiences were stunned to witness 13-year-old actress Chloe Moretz ("500 Days Of Summer") who plays Hit Girl, swear like a trooper and perform like a professional weapon-wielding hitman. According to viewer Ariel Yoong, "There were some controversial issues regarding the young girl acting in such a violent role, but it was really a breath of fresh air seeing her so independent unlike those bratty little girls we usually see on screen." Rated 18, under the National Censorship Board's new ratings system in Malaysia, audiences were pleased to see less censorship towards the movie's violent, action sequences and foul languages. After the preview, viewers were asked what they thought about the movie and how many stars would they give out of five.
