2 Sep – The three day holiday stretch for Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Merdeka saw most cinemas in Klang Valley with a fair number of moviegoers, but more so for the local releases such as "Karipap-Karipap Cinta" and "Hantu Bonceng" for which the latter managed to match the ticket sales of Hollywood blockbuster film; "Transformers: Dark Of The Moon". TGV Sunway Pyramid saw an average crowd, however the popular Hollywood titles such as "Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes", "Cowboys And Aliens" and "Final Destination" saw lesser shows compared to the Raya opening movies such as "Hantu Bonceng" and "Karipap-Karipap Cinta" which managed to gather almost sold out shows as patrons relished in the spirit of Raya and Merdeka. Based on a recent press statement from Excellent Pictures, the Ahmad Idham directed "Hantu Bonceng" which opened on the second day of Raya coinciding with Merdeka, managed to match that of "Transformers: Dark Of The Moon" as it raked up ticket sales totalling up to almost 95 percent at various locations such as Mesra Mall, Kerteh and Tebrau City, Johor Bahru as well as a number of other nationwide locations including Singapore and Brunei. "Based on the observation at various cinemas in Klang Valley, there were some disappointed patrons that didn't manage to get tickets for "Hantu Bonceng". And from what I heard from cinema managers, tickets were sold out in the evening itself for the night-time shows, so I would advise those who wish to watch "Hantu Bonceng" to get their tickets in advance, or to make reservations to avoid disappointments," director-screenwriter Ahmad Idham was quoted as saying in the press statement. "Hantu Bonceng" was released on 31 August and is now showing at cinemas in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei.
