19 March – Kevin Costner has signed on to play the father of Clark Kent in the new "Superman" movie as confirmed in an official press release by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures. The Academy Award winner will play Jonathan Kent, who raises Clark as his own son and helps him understand what he is meant to do in the world as Superman. Zack Snyder ("300", "Sucker Punch") is directing the film, which is set to begin production in Vancouver this summer. "Kevin will be able to communicate the quiet strength of this rural American man who raised the greatest super hero of all time," Snyder stated in the release regarding the actor's selection.
Warner had previously announced that Diane Lane would play Martha Kent, the wife of Jonathan. Henry Cavill will play Clark Kent and, of course, his caped alias, Superman. Costner's most recent role was in 2010's "The Company Men." He is now in development of the comedy "The One." Tentatively the movie will be titled "Superman: Man of Steel" with a December 2012 release date.
