28 Jun – According to an undisclosed official, Internationally recognised Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh has been deported by the army-dominated Myanmar and blacklisted from re-entering the country, according to a report by MSN News website.
The undisclosed Myanmar official added, "She did not have the chance to enter Myanmar again. She was deported straight away on the first flight after arriving at Yangon International Airport". Another official reported saying that Michelle Yeoh is now on the 'blacklist' and refused to explain further. The Malaysian former Bond girl who plays Nobel Peace Prize pro-democracy Aung San Suu Kyi in "The Lady", for a film based on the controversial Myanmar politician, which had raised eyebrows among the rulers of the nation. Fresh after turning 66 this month, Suu Kyi, has won international acclaim for her peaceful resistance in the face of oppression. She boycotted last year's vote, stating that the rules were unfair. A former Miss Malaysia, Yeoh, 48, shot to international stardom when she co-starred with Pierce Brosnan in the 1997 James Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies" followed by Ang Lee's "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" and "Memoirs of a Geisha".
