"Star Trek 2" in IMAX

The sequel to "Star Trek" will be available in 3D and possibly in IMAX format as well.

24 Dec – J.J. Abrams reveals that "Star Trek 2" will be shot in 2D before undergoing a post conversion in 3D and may also be available in IMAX format.

Previous blockbusters like "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hollows: Part 2" was shot in 2D, but was said that it went through a very high quality of 3D conversion process in the post-production. Therefore now J.J. Abrams has also decided to do the same thing to the sequel of the "Star Trek" franchise.

"We're shooting on film, 2D, and then we'll do a good high-end conversion like the 'Harry Potter' movie. Luckily, with our release date now we have the months needed to do it right because if you rush it, it never looks good," said Abrams in a recent MTV News interview.

Moreover, Abrams says there is a high possibility that the team will consider to film "Star Trek 2" in IMAX.

"We were talking about [shooting in IMAX] and I would love to do it. IMAX is my favourite format; I'm a huge fan," he added.

Collaborating with Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof on scripts, Abrams praises the three scriptwriters' amazing script and admits the only way "Star Trek 2" will receive negative reception is if he "screws up" in his directing effort.

Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana and Zachary Quinto are set to return to the movie, which will be released in 2013 worldwide.
