Zorro's Rebirth

Zorro returns with new plot set in future and possibly without Antonio Banderas as the sword-swishing hero.

28 Apr – 20th Century Fox is currently developing a reboot of the classic Zorro character entitled "Zorro Reborn", which will be set in an apocalyptic wasteland which would not feature many of the original characteristics of Zorro, as reported by Aceshowbiz website.

"Zorro Reborn" will have a dark reinterpretation similar to Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" with shades of Sergio Leone's western films as well as "No Country for Old Man". In this version, Zorro will be less a caped crusader for justice than a one-man vigilante force bent on revenge.

Unlike previous "Zorro" films, which starred Antonio Banderas, a fresh young actor is expected to take the role of the new Zorro. The script of "Zorro Reborn" will be written by Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, the screenwriters behind the "Dracula" upcoming reboot film titled "Harker".

Rpin Suwannath, who has done visualisation works on films, will be directing "Zorro Reborn". His visualisation works include "Matrix", "X-Men", and The Chronicles of Narnia series.

The last time that Zorro appeared on the screen, was in the 2005 film "The Legend Of Zorro" which was a sequel to "The Mask Of Zorro" in 1998. Both of these films were directed by Martin Campbell and starred Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The 20th Century Fox Film "Zorro Reborn" is tentatively set for release in 2012.
