30 May – After "Marvel's The Avengers" superhero feat in taking the box office lead for about four weeks give or take, since its entry, Barry Sonnenfeld's Men In Black are back with brand new suits and alien weaponry in "Men In Black 3", to bring them down. After all, it is this independent secret agency's job to maintain Earth as a "neutral zone" for extraterrestrial aliens, and this cannot be accomplish while a Hulk is on the loose. However, despite the time span of ten years after its predecessor "Men in Black II", the return of Will Smith's fresh prince face only managed to garner it an opening gross of US$54.5 million, which was less than expected, considering the hype. The science fiction comedy also stars Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin and Emma Thompson, and details the story of Agent J (Smith), who has to travel back in time to stop Boris the Animal, an intergalactic criminal, from killing Agent K (Jones) in the present, thus, resulting in an imminent invasion of Earth. "Marvel's The Avengers" is second while "Battleship" sinks to third, according to Box Office Mojo for the weekend gone by (24-27 May). The same goes for Malaysia for the first two spots, however, in third place is the newly released "Aku Ada, Kau Ada", a local film set in scenic Korea. Rahila Ali directs this musical romance about two rivals of the opposite gender who eventually fall for each other in spite of themselves, which bears a lot of similarity with South Korean dramas, thus explaining its hype. It is the same old tale in Singapore, with the arrival of "Men In Black 3" to unseat "Marvel's The Avengers" from the number one spot to second. On the other hand, the absence of "Aku Ada, Kau Ada" allowed Burton and Depp's gothic comedy "Dark Shadows" to remain afloat at third. Movies have opened this week in Malaysia are "Romantics Anonymous", "Service Entrance", "Hoore! Hoore!", "Korkoro", "A Cat In Paris", "Urumi", "Gerimis Mengundang" and "Man Sewel Datang KL". For Singapore, it was "The Hedgehog", "ATM", "The Killer Wolf" and "The Road".
