20 June – Dreamworks' Animation's animated comedy "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" certainly had a few things going for it that makes it stand apart from the competition, such as using fast-talking comedian Chris Rock as the voice of Marty the Zebra and remixing their signature theme, the addictive "I Like To Move It" with that of "Afro Circus". Take them apart and having just a wacky comedian or just memorable music are ingredients that are unable to stand alone, as proven by recent releases "That's My Boy" and "Rock of Ages". According to Box Office Mojo, cinemagoers are still flocking to watch the afro circus in "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted", making them stand at the top of the box office for the second consecutive week over the weekend (14 to 17 June) with US$34 million. Despite the all-star ensemble of "Rock Of Ages" and "That's My Boy", both movies opened to such disappointing results that it failed to top Ridley Scott's revival of the "Alien" franchise "Prometheus", leaving the alien prequel to land second spot again. However, the 1980s musical "Rock of Ages", spearheaded by Tom Cruise as an over-indulgent rockstar, turned out to be better material than Adam Sandler's attempt of R-rated comedy in "That's My Boy", which did not even come close to garnering the opening numbers he made with "Jack and Jill". At this time, Malaysian cinemas are spared from the new lackluster entries. "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" still took top spot, but Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel, "Prometheus", managed to move up to second place, blowing previous first runner-up "Bohsia 2: Jalan Kembali" out to fourth while "Snow White and the Huntsman" held its place as a strong third. In Singapore, "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" once again ruled supreme, with its all-ages rating being the key in ensuring that Sacha Baron Cohen's newly released "The Dictator" does not dethrone it from the box office charts. "The Dictator" settled at second place, with "Prometheus" rounding out the top three at third. Movies that opened last week in Malaysia are "Double Trouble", "Toast", "Ghost on Air", "Tears of the Mom", "Jiwa Taiko", "First Time", "Marupadiyum Oru Kadhal", "Murattu Kaalai" and "Ferrari Ki Sawaari". Meanwhile, the new movies in Singapore were "Guns & Roses", "Double Trouble", "Piranha 3DD", "A Few Best Men", "My Way", "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" and "Ferrari Ki Sawaari".
