Idris Elba returns to "Thor 2"

Idris Elba will return for "Thor 2" as Heimdall.

19 May – Slowly, but surely, the cast list for "Thor 2" is taking shape, with Idris Elba set to reprise his role as Heimdall, the guardian of Asgard in "Thor 2", and the British actor claimed that the Marvel superhero sequel will be "huge", according to NZCity.

"It's a huge film, "Thor 2", but I also think it's micro in a way that you start to look at people, who they are a little bit more," said Elba.

The Golden Globe winner also revealed that the sequel will explore the characters' backgrounds in detail. Besides seeing Thor rising to the occasion as the God of Thunder, fans will also get the opportunity to hear Heimdall's side of the story in the film.

"I'd just like to get to know him a bit more. Who is Heimdall? He guards the gate. Is there anything else? I don't know what is in the script because I haven't read it yet. But, the audience has responded to Asgard and wants to know more about who lives there and what it's about. I'm sure, if they do that, Heimdall will be featured more."

Elba will next appear in Ridley Scott's sci-fi thriller "Prometheus" alongside Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron. The actor is also shooting in Cape Town for "Long Walk To Freedom", a biopic about Nelson Mandela, in which he will portray the legendary South African leader himself.

"My schedule is really packed, but I'm going to do Thor after I play [Nelson] Mandela," Elba said.

"Thor 2" is currently set for release in November 2013 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman and Idris Elba. The film is directed by Alan Taylor.
