28 Oct– After making steady leaps from romantic dramas and horror flicks, local director Hashim Rejab expands his scope by taking a shot at the action genre with his first ever action feature "Budak Pailang", for which the filmmaker claims that there are no fake fighting scenes in the gangster themed production. "We want real fights, full-packed action. Whatever punching, bashing and kicking you have seen in the movie is well-designed and they are 100 percent real," said the "Halim Munan" director. He added, "Most of the fighting scenes were shot in street-fighting style. We are not looking for too many skills, we want something raw from every actor. No body double is used. I even asked Wawa Zainal to do her stunts by herself. That's the selling point of our movie." Hashim also viewed the 68th movie produced by Metrowealth Pictures (MIG) as a mirror reflection on how an individual suffers unbearable consequences by himself due to making wrong decisions in life. "I emphasize on three aspects. First is the family. The way a parent brings up his or her kids affects their future. Secondly, money and women. A man can never live without them. Thirdly, I want to show the truth about human beings. A person can change, either towards good or bad. This is what "Budak Pailang" is all about," Hashim explained.
Speaking of box office results, the humble director said that he is only aiming for RM3 million for "Budak Pailang", which will be released on 1 November, as he understands that the local movie industry is currently undergoing a low cinema season. "Budak Pailang" stars Aeril Zafrel, Wawa Zainal, Epy Raja Lawak, Zalif Sidek, Man Rahman and Arien Yunus. The action drama tells the life-changing story of a bully and drug-seller Badrul, who learns to be a better person after suffering from the pain of losing his loved ones.
