1 Jul – Apparently there can be more than one, with "Safe House" star Ryan Reynolds confirmed to star in a remake of Russell Mulcahy's 1986 fantasy action film. According to Movie Web, Summit Entertainment has already commissioned a remake of the cult hit, with director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, best known for his directorial work on "28 Weeks Later" and "Intruders", behind the helm. He may also rewrite the screenplay by "Iron Man" scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. Reynolds will star as the protagonist Connor McLeod, a sword-wielding Scotsman who is one of the last immortal warriors known as Highlanders. The role was last played by Christopher Lambert. "Highlander" tells the story of the climatic ages-old battle between immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present day storylines, as there can be only one survivor, who will then receive the famed "Prize". It should not be difficult for "The Green Lantern" star as he is no stranger to swordplay, having played Deadpool in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". After Christopher Lambert's first appeared as Connor McLeod in the 1986 adventure "Highlander", his character became an icon and continued to appear in the sequels "Highlander II: The Quickening", "Highlander: The Final Dimension", "Highlander: Endgame", "Highlander: The Source", "Highlander: The Search for Vengeance", along with the "Highlander" TV series that ran for six seasons. "Highlander" is set to see release in theaters in 2014 and stars Ryan Reynolds. The film is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.
