5 Aug – When it comes to big names like Ridley Scott, they rarely disappoint, which is why "The Counselor" is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated films of 2013, which the "Prometheus" director is set to direct. According to Collider, Scott will be adapting the film based on screenwriting by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cormac McCarthy, who is best known for his gritty "No Country for Old Men" and "The Road", both of which have been adapted to film. The former was a 2007 American thriller written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen starring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin, while the latter was a 2009 post-apocalyptic film directed by John Hillcoat, starring Viggo Mortensen and Kodi Smit-McPhee. "The Counselor" marks the screenwriting debut of McCarthy, and there is also an insane ensemble cast to match the bigwig production team, which consists of "Prometheus" star Michael Fassbender, "Killing Them Softly" lead Brad Pitt, "No Country For Old Men" star Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, and "Breaking Bad"'s Dean Norris. It is also said that actor John Leguizamo ("Ice Age: Continental Drift") has also signed on for the film while actress Natalie Dormer ("Game of Thrones") is currently in negotiations for a role. The story centres on an attorney (Fassbender) living on the Texas border who hires a counselor for advice when he realizes that he is in over his head in a drug deal with Bardem's character to sell $20 million worth of cocaine and must now fight to survive. Production is now firmly underway and the first image of Pitt on the London set has hit the web. This marks a reteaming of sorts for the actor and his "Thelma And Louise" director.
According to Pitt, "I'm only doing a few days on that. [Killing Them Softly director] Andrew [Dominik] and I are both Cormac McCarthy fans – I mean, I've read every word the guy's published and most of them more than once. So this was a chance to do something of his and also to work with Ridley [Scott] again. Ridley gave me my first break into the big leagues. And I'm a [Michael] Fassbender fanatic too." "The Counselor" is yet undated for release in Malaysia and Singapore.
