Saoirse Ronan is Disney's Snow White

Saoirse Ronan may be the next Snow White in Disney's "Order Of Seven".

16 Feb – It is not enough that two versions of "Snow White" are coming out this year that Disney has got to try their hand at an adaptation of their own too, after launching their brand with the animated feature "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs" back in 1937. Irish actress Saoirse Ronan has been reported to be in final talks to star in Disney's "Order of Seven," which is supposedly a retelling of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", but with kung-fu, according to Variety.

The action-adventure film would see Ronan playing a British expatriate in 19th century Hong Kong named Olivia Sinclair, who seeks the protection of the legendary group of warriors, only to find out that they are now a jaded group of outlaws. When the ancient evil empress reemerges, Sinclair has to help the warriors reclaim their destiny and noble roots.

The film has been in development at Disney since 2002, originally titled as "Snow and the Seven", penned by Michael Chabon. A number of directors have been attached to the project, such as "The Matrix" trilogy and "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" fight choreographer Yuen Woo-ping and "Toy Story 3" Francis Lawrence. The directorial role has now fallen to debutant Michael Gracey, who previously helmed commercials and supervised visual effects.

In addition, Disney hopes to boost the international appeal of the film by casting the Asian and Western stars in the roles of the warriors. Studio executives have been sighted making trips to China, Russia and Japan to begin talks with local talents. Production for "Order Of Seven" starts this fall.

Meanwhile, Ronan will next be seen in Neil Jordan's vampire feature "Byzantium" and Andrew Niccol's "The Host," which is based on "Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer's novel. Fans can also watch the two other versions of "Snow White" first this year, which are "Mirror Mirror" starring Lily Collins in 29 March, and "Snow White And The Huntsman" starring Kristen Stewart in 31 May.
