10 Jan – In a surprising move, small-time budget horror, "The Devil Inside", managed to oust big-budget films like "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" from the top spot in the U.S. box office chart, resulting in an impressive total gross of $33.7 million. Produced for less than $1 million, the achievement of "The Devil Inside" also indicates moviegoers' love of supernatural horror, as it charted a fifth-best debut ever behind the last two "Paranormal Activity" movies, "The Grudge" and "The Ring Two". Meanwhile, "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" has dropped to second place, although it seems set to surpass the original movie soon. Third, but not last, is Robert Downey Jr.'s "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows", according to online tracker, Box Office Mojo. For Malaysia, another horror movie is reigning, which was last week's top, "The Darkest Hour". Chris Gorak's action-thriller about an alien invasion in Moscow is clearly a hard one to beat, even by Cruise, although it could also mean that almost everyone has watched "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol", the second place holder. Coming in third is surprising newcomer, "Turning Point: Laughing Gor Returns", the sequel to the Hong Kong movie, "Turning Point". The series itself is a spin-off of the television drama, "E.U". As for Singapore, "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows" continues to intrigue moviegoers, taking the top spot at the weekend box office charts once again. On the other hand, the tables have turned on "The Darkest Hour", replaced by "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" in its second place last week, while the highly-anticipated "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" finally debuted at third. This latest thriller resumes David Fincher's line of dark movies, starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in the lead roles as a journalist and computer hacker out to solve a family mystery. Other new releases last week in Malaysia were "Already Famous", "The Awakening", "Sesuatu Yang Tertinggal", "Turning Point: Laughing Gor Returns", "Maharaja", "The Beaver", and "Relationship Status". On the other hand, in Singapore, the new releases last week were "Players", "Machine Gun Preacher", "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", "Courageous", "Sarah's Key", "My Week With Marilyn", "The Inbetweeners Movie", and "Special Forces".
