Clarke is the new John Connor

Jason Clarke with Kyle Chandler in "Zero Dark Thirty".

14 Dec – "Zero Dark Thirty" star Jason Clarke is set to be cast as John Connor, a character last played by Christian Bale, in the upcoming reboot "Terminator: Genesis".

The Australian star is the first actor to be cast in the reboot, and the film will be directed by "Thor: The Dark World" helmer Alan Taylor.

The plot is largely being kept quiet, though it may follow much of the basics of James Cameron's original '(wo)man vs. machine' narratives.

John Connor is the heroic leader of the human resistance, the man who must help us battle Skynet. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also linked with his memorable role, though Empire Online's big theory is that he plays the scientist who works on the Terminator cyborgs and either creates them in his image or is forced to.

Connor is also the son of Sarah Connor, and it is rumoured that "Game of Thrones" star Emilia Clarke and "Short Term 12" star Brie Larson are the presumed frontrunners of the role.

Jason Clarke is most known for his fantastic performance in "Zero Dark Thirty" alongside Jessica Chastain. He has also appeared in "The Great Gatsby" and "White House Down" this year, and is set to star in the upcoming sequel "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes".
