4 Apr – Conversations with local director Opie Zami turned a little sombre after the premiere screening of his first feature film "Kecoh! Hantu Raya Tok Chai" when he admitted he had problems during and after the shooting of the film. Apparently, there had been some controversy surrounding him and the scriptwriter of the horror-comedy film which stars Saiful Apek and Intan Ladyana among others. "When I received the script, I did not accept the thing as a whole. I only wanted to make the movie if I just kept the Tok Chai character away from the script itself." He also went on to continue, "I don't know if this is true, but the scriptwriter, who prefers to be nameless, had stated that 'If Opie directs, don't put my name on as a credit.' I don't have a problem with the scriptwriter, but apparently he has a problem with me."
While speaking to the press, Opie also stated his blunt opinion on what he thought of the film after seeing it for the first time, "I can understand that the film may seem boring and draggy. I had gone through the same problem as a lot of directors. Some scenes are cut and you have to shoot other scenes to fit into a feature length film." However, he did enjoy the chuckles from the audience during the screening, "I was scared to see the reactions to the film, but the amount of laughs I've heard in the theatre makes it all worthwhile." "Honestly, I thank the producers who have given me an offer to direct, and I've tried as hard as I could. I'm still in the process of learning. I'm not satisfied with what I've seen as the end product, but people always say that if you are satisfied of what you've done, you'll never be a better director." "Kecoh! Hantu Raya Tok Chai" will be screened at cinemas nationwide this 18 April 2013!
