"KL Gangster 2" fights to the top of The Malaysian weekend box office!

8 Oct – Despite the movie being leaked early, moviegoers in Malaysia still flocked to the theatres to watch "KL Gangster 2", which led the movie to shoot to first place from sixth in the local box office last weekend (3 – 6 October), beating films like "Gravity" and "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2".

The movie is the prequel to Syamsul Yusuf's top-grossing film, "KL Gangster", and details how brothers Malek (Aaron Aziz) and Jai (Adi Putra) become involved with the gangs.

Meanwhile, coming in second is Alfonso Cuarón's "Gravity" and coming in third is the Pang brothers' firefighter drama "Inferno". Both films are about two people trying to survive amid the dire circumstances they find themselves in; in "Gravity", George Clooney and Sandra Bullock play an astronaut and a medical engineer who must work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space while in "Inferno", Sean Lau and Louis Koo play two firefighter brothers who must work together to escape a burning building.

James Wan's follow up to "Insidious", "Insidious: Chapter 2", grabs top spot in Singapore's box office over the weekend.

In Singapore, newcomer "Insidious: Chapter 2" grabs the top spot in the weekend box office, followed by "Young Detective Dee: Rise Of The Sea Dragon" and "Out Of Inferno", which is also known as "Inferno" in Malaysia in second and third places respectively. It seems that Singaporeans are not too keen on "KL Gangster 2", as the action film opened in eighth place.

In the United States, "Gravity" is free to take the top spot in the weekend box office in the absence of "KL Gangster 2". In second place is "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2", which was last week's top film. Rounding up the top three is Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck's "Runner, Runner".

Other new films that opened over the weekend in Malaysia are "Ghost Ghost Ghosts!" and "Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara".
