10 Sep – "Riddick" not only took over the first spot in Malaysia's box office last weekend (5-8 September) but it is also number one in the U.S. weekend box office as well! "Riddick", starring Vin Diesel as the titular character, is a science fiction thriller and the continuation of "The Chronicles of Riddick" film franchise about the anti-hero who finds himself up against an alien race of predators. In Malaysia, the film beat other competitors like "Grown Ups 2", "KL Zombi" and "Elysium". The films came in second, third and fourth place, respectively.
In the United States, "The Butler", starring Oprah Winfrey and Forest Whitaker about a butler who had served eight presidents during his tenure as at the White House, had fallen in second place to "Riddick". In Singapore, the demigod sequel film "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" starring Logan Lerman ruled the weekend box office again. The film, which also stars Alexandra Daddario and Nathan Fillion, was directed by Thor Freudenthal and told the story about the son of Poseidon and his friends who embark on a quest to the Sea of Monsters to find the mythical Golden Fleece while trying to stop an ancient evil from rising. Other new movies that opened over the weekend in Malaysia are "Arya Surya", "Madha Gaja Raja", "Zanjeer", "Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam", "Jobs", "Dhusrajanam", "The Midas Touch" and "Psiko: Pencuri Hati". Other new movies that opened over the weekend in Singapore are "Shuddh Desi Romance", "Zanjeer", "We're The Millers", "Planes", "Cody The Robosapien", "Detective Conan: Private Eye In The Distant Sea", "Cold Eyes" and "The Midas Touch".
Box office takings for the weekend just gone (05 September - 11 September 2013)
